Background History of SAS

The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region as like another parts of Bangladesh is especially rich in heritage and tradition in terms of socio- economic condition, culture, demography and ethnicity and, topography. The CHT, particularly, is a home of 13 ethnic group and they have been living here with various hardship from unmemorable period of time. Despite of affluence of human and natural resources, aspired development of population under one-tenth area of country cannot be achieved so far. The residents of this region were deprived of opportunity of proper participation in development activities due to political unrest and conflict for two and half decade. So, residents of the region became poor to poorer on account of unfavorable circumstances by losing their rights and dignity. As a result, commitment for development in quality of people's life, raised from different quarter has just resulted in verbosity. In that perspective, Mr. Lalit C. Chakma has involved himself into social works in order to develop his native village in 1992. He established a youth organization aiming to make the youth committed and organized to develop native village in 1994 and subsequently, he continued his leadership in this organization by bringing together young people for several years.
